|1779||August-November||On his second trip to Switserland Goethe visits Lauterbrunnen. Inspired by the 'Staubbachfall' he writes the poem 'Gesang der Geister über den Wassern'. It was published in 1789.|
|1822||July-October||The young Felix Mendelssohn visits Switserland for the first time with his family.|
|1831||August||On his second visit to Switserland which was part of a long journey Felix (he is 22) visits Lauterbrunnen where he criticizes Goethe for the weakness of the poems and the letters that the latter wrote there: ein paar schwache Gedichte und die noch schwächere Briefe.|
|1847||August||During his last visit to his beloved Switserland Mendelssohn paints the 'Staubbachfall', some month before his death (November 4th).|
